There have never been more ways to send out messages to our existing customers and known prospects.  With the rise and rise of social media (tweeting , Facebook, Linked In et al)  many have forgotten about one of the most effective E mail marketing.

If you have a list (database / spreadsheet or a series of lists) or are building a list of

  • Existing 'live' customers – people who have recently purchased from you (now depending on the product or service you sell they may have purchased 1 week ago or many years  ago)
  • Lapsed customers – people who have purchased from you in the past
  • Existing prospects – people who are known to you where you are currently trying to sell
  • New prospects – people who become aware of you (they might sign up to join your list, you might get there details at a networking event)

E mail marketing can be a very effective mechanism to communicate.

With modern e mail technology its possible to
  • Create high impact HTML e mails (without needing to be a programmer) that can incorporate images (essential if you are selling products)
  • Track exactly who
      • Opens an e mail
      • Identify which link they clicked on e.g. did they click on an image, the blue underlined link or the title
      • Pro-actively and selectively chase up / telephone those people who clicked on an article as opposed to calling everybody
      • See which e mails bounced and why - wouldn't it be really useful to see who has changed e mail address or moved jobs etc
